Nestled in a splendid gulf, protected to the north by picturesque mountains, it is harmoniously distributed, made up of little squares and characteristic alleys in the heart of the town. Extremely rich in churches and monuments, testimony to a past full of history and administrative-religious importance, Gravedona is certainly one of the pearls of Lake Como.
The name derives from Grava: a term used to indicate a coast or strip of stony land.
Gravedona today no longer appears as it did in the past, when it was given its name, but in the pastel colors of its houses that broadly cover that strip of stony land which suggests tranquility and rest, until, lapping the water of the shore, entering the blue of the lake and blending with it, it offers a mysterious, serious, and reflective chromaticity that invites meditation.
